Eastlake, OH - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (30-23) dropped a 6-1 contest to the Lake County Captains (17-33) on Thursday afternoon at Classic Park. Andrew Toles and Leonardo Reginatto each had two hits, and Reginatto drove in the only Hot Rods run. The loss to the last-place Captains sends the Hot Rods to their third straight series defeat.
The Captains jumped on the Hot Rods early, scoring four runs off Dylan Floro in the bottom of the second inning. Just two batters into the inning, Eric Haase homered to right field to put the Captains in the 2-0 lead. Two more runs came in to score with two outs in the inning on RBI singles by Erik Gonzalez and Dorssys Paulino.
Lake County took a 5-0 lead on a Logan Vick solo home run in the third inning. The Hot Rods scored their only run of the game in the top of the fifth. After a Justin O'Conner leadoff single and Tommy Coyle walk, Reginatto singled home O'Conner to put the Hot Rods on the board. However, the Captains turned a 5-4-3 double play to quell the Hot Rods threat, and Bowling Green was forced to settle for one run. The Hot Rods offense was quiet throughout the rest of the game, which was played in a brisk two hours and thirteen minutes.
The Hot Rods now return home to begin a seven-game homestand that starts with a four-game series with the South Bend Silver Hawks.
