Bowling Green, KY – Jake Hager and Alejandro Segovia both blasted two-run home runs to lead the Bowling Green Hot Rods (38-32) to a 9-3 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps (31-39) on Father’s Day Sunday at Bowling Green Ballpark. The win completes the first home sweep for the Hot Rods this season. Josh Sale also knocked a three-run triple, and Roberto Gomez won his seventh game.
After falling behind 1-0 early in the game, the Hot Rods stormed from behind to strike for four runs in the bottom on the third inning. After a Juniel Querecuto single and a Jake Hager walk, Taylor Motter lined a single to left field to score Querecuto to tie the score a one apiece. Later in the inning with the bases loaded and two outs, Josh Sale tripled to deep right-centerfield to clear the bases and place the Hot Rods in the lead 4-1.
Still holding a 4-1 lead later in the game, the Hot Rods struck for two
more runs in the bottom of the fifth on Jake Hager’s first home run at Bowling Green Ballpark this season. The no-doubter to left field was Hager’s third home run of the season. On their way to scoring nine times on the day, the Hot Rods added late-runs on a Querecuto single and the two-run home run by Segovia.
Hot Rods starter Roberto Gomez managed to overcome a shaky initial inning to earn his team-leading seventh win of the 2012 campaign. The Dominican right-hander tied his career high with four walks in the top of the first but managed to escape with just one run allowed. Gomez finished the five-inning outing by giving up just one hit.
