BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Junior linebacker Andrew Jackson has been named CBS Sports' Preseason Defensive Player of the Year for the Sun Belt Conference.
Jackson was previously named the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in the Sun Belt Conference in a vote of the league's coaches and select media members on July 15 at Sun Belt Conference Media Day. He has also been selected to the preseason watch lists for the Rotary Lombardi Award, The Butkus Award, Bronko Nagurski Award and Bednarik Award.
Jackson followed up his breakout sophomore campaign in 2011 with an even better showing in his junior season in 2012, leading WKU in tackles (122), forced fumbles (4) and quarterback hits (3). He was named first-team All-Sun Belt Conference for the second-straight season, leading the Hilltoppers in tackling on six different occasions, making him WKU’s leading tackler in 14 of the last 26 games he has played. His 17.5 tackles for loss ranked second on the team behind sack artist Quanterus Smith’s 18.5.
The outlet also named Antonio Andrews (running back and punt returner), Jonathan Dowling (safety) and Jackson (linebacker) to their preseason All-SBC team. The Hilltoppers are picked to finish third in the league by the outlet, but are listed among the teams that can compete for the league championship.
