NEW ORLEANS – Concluding the regular season on a high note after winning the program’s first Sun Belt Conference Championship, Western Kentucky University softball outfielder Katrina Metoyer earned SBC Softball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Metoyer guided WKU to a perfect 3-0 week to conclude the regular season after leading the team with a .714 batting average last week. She also led the team with five hits, four runs, three RBI and one home run.
The Garden Grove, Calif., native hit a three-run home run in game two versus Middle Tennessee to secure the sweep against the Blue Raiders, as she reached base in all but one at-bat in the doubleheader. Metoyer posted a slugging percentage of 1.143 and on-base percentage of .778. The senior’s two multi-hit games this week gave her 12 on the season.
Metoyer earned SBC Player of the Week for the second time in 2013 after previously picking up the accolades on March 11. She is the fifth different Lady Topper to earn a SBC weekly award this season, as Preslie Cruce, Kelsie Mattox, Emily Rousseau and Mallorie Sulaski each won previously. In all, WKU has earned the accolade nine times, the most of any league school.
