BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-After posting a 3-0 record last week, the Western Kentucky University volleyball team solidified another week in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Poll, as the team is ranked No. 20 for the second week in a row.
The ranking is the highest in program history and marks the longest WKU has appeared in the poll at four weeks. The Lady Toppers received 344 votes this week after getting 273 in last week's poll.
WKU is on a 12-game winning streak and have won 20 out of the last 21 games. Last week, WKU defeated Middle Tennessee, North Texas and Louisiana-Monroe all in three-set sweeps and away from E.A. Diddle Arena to improve its record to 20-3 overall and 6-0 in the Sun Belt Conference. The team has not lost a set in the conference schedule, as WKU has now defeated its last seven opponents by a score of 3-0.
WKU leads the conference as a team in hitting percentage, assists and kills. Redshirt junior Paige Wessel (.415), sophomore Heather Boyan (.354) and junior Melanie Stutsman (.344) hold the top three spots, respectively, in individual hitting percentage while Stutsman is also first in assists with 11.12 per set.
The team returns home the next two weekends, welcoming Florida International on Friday, October 12 at 6 p.m. before Hilltopper Hysteria and Florida Atlantic on Saturday, October 13 at 2 p.m. The following weekend, Arkansas State and UALR will take on the Lady Toppers.
