ATLANTA—The Western Kentucky University volleyball team (13-4, 3-0) earned its third sweep in Sun Belt Conference play, as the team defeated Georgia State (5-12, 0-3) on Wednesday night by scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-12.
Sophomore Noelle Langenkamp posted her eight double-digit kill performance of the season after tying her career high with 15 against the Panthers. The Cincinnati native had the hot hand in the contest, as in 19 swings she had no errors to hit a new career-high .789 attack percentage, which ranks fifth all-time for a hitting percentage in a match for WKU.
Fellow classmate Haley Bodway added 12 kills while senior Melanie Stutsman dished out 39 assists. Defenively, senior Ashley Potts tabbed a match-high 18 digs. At the net, WKU outblocked GSU 7-3, as junior Heather Boyan led the team with four blocks.
The teams traded points and leads for the early parts of the first set. The Lady Toppers broke away to take a 17-14 lead following Bodway’s fifth kill of the set before a block from sophomore Rachel Engle and Langenkamp set the score at 21-17. WKU went on to win the set 25-19.
GSU opened the second set with a 4-1 advantage before WKU worked its way back, as a block by Boyan and Engle followed immediately by a solo block from Boyan put WKU ahead 9-7. The Lady Toppers continued to carry the lead throughout the frame, as a redshirt senior Paige Wessel kill put WKU up 20-15 and force a GSU timeout. Out of the break, Langenkamp recorded her tenth kill of the match to increase the lead to 22-17 before WKU won 25-18.
The Panthers once again started with an early 3-1 lead. Freshman Kaelin Grimes recorded a service ace to knot the game at 4 each before the Lady Toppers gave themselves some breathing room with a 14-8 lead following a senior Janee’ Diggins and Boyan block assist. WKU allowed GSU just four more points in the set, as WKU cruised to a 25-12 win.
