BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Arkansas State limited WKU to just one field goal in the final five minutes of play to erase a late WKU lead and leave E.A. Diddle Arena with a 67-64 win in the 31st Annual BB&T Classic.
Arkansas State had just two field goals in the final five minutes and just four in the final 10 minutes of the game, making its comeback in the game’s final nine-plus minutes from the free throw line after cutting the lead to two at 48-46 with a pair of three-point field goals by Hanna Qedan.
Arkansas State jumped out to an eight-point lead in the opening minutes at 12-4 before the Lady Toppers gradually fought back, taking a lead at 16-15 on a Bianca McGee three-point field goal before settling for a one-point deficit at halftime. The Lady Toppers were just 2-of-13 from the field to open the game before ending the first half making 7-of-14 shots to finish at 33.3 percent from the field for the opening 20 minutes of play.
Junior Chastity Gooch led WKU with 19 points while sophomore Micah Jones and redshirt freshman Kendall Noble added 14 points for the Lady Toppers, who shot just 39.2 percent from the field for the game.,
