BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Sitting at 8-4 in Sun Belt Conference play, the WKU baseball team looks to stay atop the league standings as the Hilltoppers welcome in Troy for a three-game series beginning on Friday at 6:00 PM (CT) at Nick Denes Field. WKU has won three-straight home conference series dating back to last season, and have not lost a home series this season since the season-opening series against Bowling Green State.
WKU took two of three from Troy last season in Bowling Green, with a game two win snapping a seven-game losing streak to the Trojans. The series win for WKU was its first over Troy since 2009, as the Hilltoppers come in to Friday's contest looking for their first ever three-game winning streak over the Trojans.
WKU is coming off a win over No. 8 Louisville on Tuesday at Bowling Green Ballpark, winning on a walk-off single in the ninth inning by Regan Flaherty. The win gave the Hilltoppers two wins over top-10 teams this season, as WKU also picked up a win over then-No. 8 Kentucky on March 19 in Lexington. WKU is the only Sun Belt team to knock off two top-10 teams this season, and it marked the first time since 2005 that a WKU team had beaten two teams in the top 25 in the same season.
Junior Tanner Perkins is scheduled to get the start on Friday, followed by Andrew Edwards and Tim Bado. The three starters combined for their best weekend during a three-game series in Jonesboro, Ark., last weekend, working a season-best 17.2 innings and surrendering a season-low four earned runs. On the season the trio has a combined record of 7-5 and sport an ERA of 4.07, while limiting batters to a .277 average.
