LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Making its second straight appearance in the College World Series, the Louisville baseball team will play its opening game in this year’s event against Vanderbilt on Saturday at 8 p.m., ET at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in a nationally televised matchup on ESPN2.
The 2014 College World Series opener is scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m., ET when Texas and UC Irvine kick things off. On the other side of the CWS bracket, Texas Tech will take on either TCU or Pepperdine on Sunday at 3 p.m., ET, while the winner of the Virginia/Maryland Super Regional will face the winner of the Louisiana-Lafayette/Ole Miss Super Regional on Sunday at 8 p.m., ET.
The losing teams in Saturday’s two games will play one another at 3 p.m., ET on Monday, while Saturday’s winners face off at 8 p.m., ET on Monday. The losing squads in Sunday’s games will play at 3 p.m., ET on Tuesday, while Sunday’s winners meet Tuesday at 8 p.m., ET.
The winners of the two brackets will play a best-of-three championship series (CWS Finals), with the first game set for 8 p.m., ET on Monday, June 23. The second game is scheduled for 8 p.m., ET on Tuesday, June 24, while the third and deciding game (if necessary) is slated for 8 p.m., ET on Wednesday, June 25.
The Cardinals (50-15) clinched their third trip in eight seasons to the College World Series by closing the Louisville Super Regional with a 7-4 win over Kennesaw State in game two on Saturday night. Vanderbilt (46-19) earned its second trip to Omaha in school history with a 12-5 win over Stanford on Sunday in the third and final game of the Nashville Super Regional.
