Bowling Green, KY – A second inning grand slam from Brandon Martin powered the Bowling Green Hot Rods (64-44, 26-14) to a 4-1 win over the Dayton Dragons (50-59, 22-18) on Thursday night. Reinaldo Lopez allowed one run in six innings to earn his seventh win of the season, and Andrew Toles set the single-season franchise record for triples with his fourteenth of the year.
With two outs in the bottom of the second inning, Marty Gantt and Patrick Leonard each drew two-out walks to load the bases for Martin, who connected for his first career grand slam to put the Hot Rods in the lead 4-0. The slam ended up being the only offense for the Hot Rods on the night, but Bowling Green was able to hold on to the advantage throughout.
Lopez allowed back-to-back doubles in the top of the third inning to plate the only run surrendered against him. The righty has now gone 4-0 in his last four starts, posting a 1.08 ERA during that stretch. Austin Pruitt hurled the final three innings of the Hot Rods win to earn his first professional save. The Dragons brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth inning, but Pruitt punched out Zach Vincej to end the game.
Toles connected for his 14th triple of the season in the at bat that immediately followed the Martin grand slam. The Tyrone, GA native is now the Hot Rods single-season record holder in the category, breaking the Ty Morrison’s record set in 2010.
