MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) -- Kermit Davis wants his Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders to seize control of their postseason destiny this year.
The Blue Raiders thought they had an NCAA tournament team a season ago before losing their regular season finale and in the Sun Belt Conference tournament quarterfinals. They wound up in the National Invitation Tournament.
Now they've matched their school record with 27 wins, won the Sun Belt title with a 19-1 record and have won 16 straight for a streak that's not only the longest in the program's history but also second nationally. Their RPI is 25 after a tough non-conference schedule all in pursuit of their first NCAA tournament berth since 1989.
Davis said Tuesday he believes they've earned an at-large berth already but know winning the tournament removes any issues.
