LAFAYETTE, La.—The No. 23 Western Kentucky University volleyball team (17-3, 3-0 SBC) earned its third three-set sweep in Sun Belt Conference play this season with a win (25-16, 25-19, 25-13) over Louisiana (9-9, 1-2 SBC) on Friday night at Earl K. Long Gym.

Redshirt junior Paige Wessel and freshman Haley Bodway led the team with nine kills each, as Wessel hit .562 and Bodway at a .500 mark. Junior Melanie Stutsman and freshman Noelle Langenkamp posted seven kills each. Stutsman hit .636 for the night and added 34 assists and seven digs.

Junior Ashley Potts led the back row with 17 digs, as she has now posted double-digit digs in 16-consecutive games. Senior Jordyn Skinner was a force at the net with four blocks in the contest, including three solo blocks. Langenkamp also held her own at the net with three blocks to help the team total nine.

For UL, Lavinia Tataran had nine kills followed by Blair Claypoole with eight. Mandi Gavin posted 24 assists and seven digs while Andrea Hole led the team with nine digs.

The Lady Toppers used a .400 hitting percentage and capitalized on eight UL attack errors to take a 25-16 first set win. Leading 7-5, WKU rolled out six-consecutive points to take a 13-5 advantage. A pair of kills from each sophomore Heather Boyan and Bodway then pushed WKU to a 24-12 lead. UL delayed the set win for the Lady Toppers after putting up four-straight points, but a Cajun service error ended the frame in favor of WKU.

Knotted at 5 apiece early in the second contest, WKU broke away after a 7-1 scoring spree gave the Lady Toppers a 12-6 lead. The Cajuns then put up a run of their own with five points in a row putting UL within one at 12-11. It would be as close as UL would get the rest of the set, as WKU got ahead as much as five before their largest lead sealed the win 25-19.

Big scoring runs by WKU throughout the final set gave the Lady Toppers a 25-13 win. Down 3-0, WKU took its first lead at 7-5 before a 9-1 spree put WKU ahead 17-8. During that span, UL committed four errors while Skinner, Stutsman, Langenkamp and Wessel all posted a kill each. The Lady Toppers continued to extend its lead, as the team closed the set with a 6-1 run.

WKU continues its conference road swing on Tuesday, October 2 at 7 p.m. at Middle Tennessee.
