Potts Earns Fourth Defensive Player of the Week for No. 18 WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Western Kentucky University volleyball player Ashley Potts was named the Sun Belt Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, the league office announced on Monday.

Potts, a native of Louisville, Ky., earned her sixth career SBC weekly award after leading the Lady Toppers with 31 digs (5.17 d/s) on the weekend. She anchored a WKU squad that clinched the SBC title for the second-consecutive year and helped hold opponents to a .151 hitting percentage on the weekend.

The junior was the only player to record double-figure digs against Troy at 15. She was one of three Lady Toppers to have double-digit digs at South Alabama, leading the team with 16. She has recorded double-digit digs in 64 matches during her career, including the past 27 contests.

The defensive specialist ranks second in the conference with 4.67 digs per set and first in league-only matches with 4.67 digs per set. She has 481 digs this season, and has guided the Lady Toppers to 28-consecutive victories against league opponents, dating back to last season.

The Lady Toppers also moved up a spot to No. 18 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Poll, a new program best.

WKU received 463 votes this week, as the team has been ranked for eight-straight weeks this season, which is the longest in program history. The team also made history this weekend, as the sweep over South Alabama marked the team's 20th-straight win and broke the previous school record of 19 games in 2002.

WKU hosts it final match of the season when the team takes on Middle Tennessee on Friday, November 9 at 7 p.m. in E.A. Diddle Arena. The team will honor seniors Sarah Rogers and Jordyn Skinner prior to the game.
