BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Junior kicker Garrett Schwettman became the third WKU Football Player to appear on a College Football Performance Award Trophy Watch List on Tuesday as the CFPA announced Schwettman to the 40-man Place Kicker Trophy Award Watch List.
Schwettman joins teammates Mitchell Henry (tight end) and Cam Thomas (defensive back) as Hilltoppers to land on CFPA Trophy Watch Lists. After stringing together two of the top single-season scoring efforts by a Hilltopper kicker as a freshman and sophomore, Schwettman is already fifth all-time at WKU in career points scored by a kicker at 156.
Schwettman is one of just three kickers representing Conference USA on the CFPA Place Kicker Trophy Watch List, joining Louisiana Tech’s Kyle Fischer and UAB’s Ty Long. He connected on 13-of-16 field goal attempts in 2013 and finished the season with 84 points overall after sinking 45 extra points.
For his career, Schwettman has knocked in 23-of-29 field goal attempts while converting 87-of-90 point after tries. The preseason honor is Schwettman’s third of the summer as he also picked up Preseason All-Conference USA recognition from Phil Steele and Athlon Sports.
The CFPA, founded in 2008, honors player and team performance in all three phases of the game -- offense, defense, and special teams. The CFPA will announce its award winners on January 14, 2015.
