LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- University of Louisville senior guard Peyton Siva has been named to the All-America team by 2012-13 Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook.
Siva joins Indiana’s Cody Zeller, Ohio State’s Deshaun Thomas, Florida State’s Michael Snaer and Creighton’s Doug McDermott on the publication’s All-America first team. All five grace the cover of this year’s Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook, which is available for purchase online at www.blueribbonyearbookonline.com. Edited by Chris Dortch, the publication is noted as the most comprehensive college basketball publication on the market.
The Cardinals’ starting point guard from Seattle, Wash., Siva averaged 9.1 points, 5.6 assists (fourth in the BIG EAST) and 1.7 steals (seventh in BIG EAST) last season. His 449 career assists rank eighth among UofL all-time assist leaders and his 211 assists in 2011-12 were the second highest ever for a UofL single season. UofL was 22-3 when Siva had five or more assists in a game, 12-1 when he had more than one steal, and 15-3 when he scored in double figures.
Siva particularly shined in the postseason. The Most Outstanding Player of the 2012 BIG EAST Championship, Siva averaged 11.3 points, 6.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals in the Cardinals’ nine postseason games (4 BIG EAST, 5 NCAA). He was named to the West Region All-Tournament team after nine assists against Michigan State and nine points, eight assists and just one turnover against Florida in the regional championship game.
He received the 2011-12 BIG EAST Conference Scholar-Athlete Sports Excellence Award for men’s basketball, an honor presented to an individual in each of the league’s 24 sports which recognizes academic and athletic achievement as well as community service. Siva, who has a 3.41 cumulative grade point average in sociology, was named to the 2011-12 Capital One Academic All-District 2 men’s basketball first team.
