Midland, MI – Following another early pitchers’ duel, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (10-3) scored several late runs in their second straight shutout of the Great Lakes Loons (5-6) by a final of 6-0 at Dow Diamond on Thursday. Coupled with a 2-0 win on Tuesday and a rainout on Wednesday, Bowling Green claimed a two-game sweep of the Loons. LHP Blake Snell earned his first win with five scoreless innings, extending a streak of shutout pitching by Hot Rod starters to 20 straight frames.

Good pitching dominated the early innings of the series finale just as it did in the Tuesday’s opener. Snell and Great Lakes RHP Lindsey Caughel pitched well enough to keep the game tied through five innings. Snell escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first by striking out Pat Stover in the most pressing situation he faced in the game.

The Hot Rods broke through in the sixth inning to grab the lead. With two outs and Andrew Toles at first base, Tyler Goeddel hit a line drive to center field that was dropped by Malcolm Holland, allowing Goeddel on base and Toles to reach third. Justin O’Conner drove in Toles with a line drive that Holland could not catch on a diving effort. Goeddel scored when Patrick Leonard hit a bloop single.

Bowling Green added another unearned run during the seventh. Ben Kline reached on a wild throw from Great Lakes infielder Paul Hoenecke on a running play from third. Kline helped the Hot Rods load the bases and scored on a single to center field from off the bat of Toles.

In the eighth, the Hot Rods put together another big inning. Bowling Green loaded the bases for Kline, who scorched a double down the right field line to plate Leonard and Leonardo Reginatto. Marty Gantt closed the scoring by coming in on a sacrifice fly from Joey Rickard.

Relievers kept the lead secure for Bowling Green after Snell finished his start. Matthew Ramsey made his Hot Rods debut and pitched a scoreless sixth inning. Reinaldo Lopez followed with back-to-back shutout innings. Marcus Jensen retired the side in the ninth to close the game and the series.
