Dayton, OH – Andrew Toles’ first home run of the season gave the Bowling Green Hot Rods (10-4) a late lead, but the Dayton Dragons (5-10) came from behind to win 6-3 at Fifth Third Field on Saturday. Bowling Green also had a good performance in the defeat from LHP Sean Bierman, who tossed four no-hit innings in a no-decision.

The Hot Rods scored the first two runs of the game. Tyler Goeddel tripled in the first inning and scored on a wild pitch from Dayton RHP Robert Stephenson. In the fifth, Marty Gantt singled and stole second base while Joey Rickard was at the plate. Rickard brought in Gantt with a triple to give the Hot Rods a 2-0 edge in the middle of the contest.

Dayton tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, which was led off by a solo home run from Junior Arias. The home run ended Bierman’s no-hit bid and snapped a streak of 15 shutout innings to open the season for the southpaw. The Dragons evened the score off a pair of Hot Rod errors. Robert Ramirez reached on one miscue and scored from second on the game-tying play.

Toles went deep in the eighth inning to put Bowling Green ahead 3-2. After two strikeouts from RHP Bennett Klimesh in his Dragon debut, Toles hit the first pitch he received from Klimesh and cleared the wall in right-center field wall. It was the team-high 11th extra-base hit this season for Toles.

Despite the go-ahead blast, the Hot Rods lead would not carry through the eighth inning. Dayton opened the home half of the frame with five consecutive hits and brought in four runs off LHP Jose Molina to take a 6-3 lead. LHP Sean Lucas entered in the ninth for Dayton and retired the side in the first save of the season for the Dragons.
