Bowling Green, KY – Andrew Toles led a come-from-behind effort with a pair of two-run doubles, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods (8-3) lost their series finale with the West Michigan Whitecaps (5-5) by a final score of 10-7 at Bowling Green Ballpark. The Whitecaps broke a seven-all tie with runs in the eighth and ninth innings to halt a seven-game Hot Rods win streak in Bowling Green’s first home loss in 2013. Starting pitcher Taylor Guerrieri pitched four innings, allowing no runs and just one base hit.

Bowling Green took an early lead while Guerrieri kept West Michigan off the scoreboard over the opening innings. Justin O’Conner and Tommy Coyle led off the bottom of the second inning with back-to-back singles. Leonardo Reginatto followed with a single of his own to drive in O’Conner for a 1-0 Hot Rods lead. Coyle scored later in the frame on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ben Kline.

Guerrieri pitched two more scoreless innings to close his second appearance of the season. However, relief pitcher Eduar Quinonez was touched for seven Whitecap runs in the top of the fifth. Mike Hernandez had a busy inning as he scored the first run of the frame on an Adolfo Reina single and then brought in the final two runs of the rally on a triple to right-center field.

Toles provided most of the Hot Rods offense in a game-tying comeback. Joey Rickard and Tyler Goeddel got on base in the home half of the fifth with a single and walk, respectively. Toles drove both runners in with a double to cut the difference to 7-4.

In a similar situation in the seventh, Toles again came through with a double to score Rickard and Goeddel, shrinking Bowling Green’s deficit to 7-6. Toles advance to third on a balk by Whitecap reliever Edgar De La Rosa and scored on a slow-bouncing groundout by Luke Maile to draw even with West Michigan.

The Whitecaps scored an unearned run in the eighth inning following two Hot Rod errors and a go-ahead single by Mario Martinez. West Michigan added insurance runs in the ninth from a two-run single from pinch hitter Austin Schotts. Bowling Green was unable to produce another comeback as Whitecap closer Jose Valdez finished off the contest.
