Eastlake, OH – The Bowling Green Hot Rods (67-51, 29-21) fell 6-3 to the Lake County Captains (47-69, 24-25) on Sunday at Classic Park in northeastern Ohio. Andrew Toles extended his on-base streak to 26 games as Tommy Coyle and Luke Maile each drove in a run for the Hot Rods. Sunday’s loss represents the 12th defeat for the Hot Rods in their last 20 games.
Trailing 6-0 in the top of the sixth inning, Toles extended his lengthy on-base streak with a leadoff double to left field. The 26-game on-base streak is the longest active streak in the Midwest League. After a Joey Rickard walk, Maile singled home Toles to put the Hot Rods on the board. Two batters later, Coyle’s infield single scored Rickard.
Despite Matt Spann and Jose Molina combining to hurl 3.2 innings of scoreless relief, the Hot Rods were not able to overcome the early barrage from the Lake County offense. Toles drove in a run in the top of the ninth inning, but the Hot Rods fell to just 1-11 all-time (including playoffs) in Lake County in August or later.
