Top prospect Conner High QB will play at Kentucky

HEBRON, Ky. -- Drew Barker will play for Kentucky, giving the Wildcats a quarterback to run their new pass-oriented offense.

The Conner High School QB made his announcement Friday. Several schools were recruiting the 6-foot-4, 210-pound dual threat who became one of the nation's top prospects after passing for 2,067 yards, rushing for 1,422 and scoring 40 touchdowns as a junior.

Kentucky beat out Southeastern Conference rivals Tennessee and South Carolina following a late pitch by first-year Wildcats coach Mark Stoops and his staff, who view Conner as a great fit for offensive coordinator Neal Brown's "Air Raid" scheme.

Barker joins a crowded quarterback corps that includes sophomores Maxwell Smith, who's returning from an ankle injury, Jalen Whitlow and Patrick Towles, both of whom shared duties after Smith went down.
