BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- WKU head coach Bobby Petrino held his first weekly press conference of the 2013 season on Monday in the Paul Just Media Center in E.A. Diddle Arena to preview the Hilltoppers' upcoming matchup with Kentucky. The Hilltoppers and Wildcats kickoff the 2013 season on Saturday at LP Field in Nashville at 6:00 p.m. CT.
"I thought we had a good camp," said Petrino. "Our players worked extremely hard. I thought our coaches did a good job in our plan for it. We got alot introduced last week and we kind of cut back on things to focus on what we are going to try and execute in the first game. It's certainly that time of year where you are ready to play a game. We're kind of tired of seeing each other and hitting each other. It's time to play a game.
"I'm looking forward to the week of preparation. It's always a fun time for me. I love going through the process and how we introduce what our schemes are and how we go out and practice it. That's one of the fun things about football for me and our staff. I'm excited about our football team. I think we've done a lot of good things. We have a lot of improvement in front of us but we'll line up Saturday night and see where we are at."
Petrino brings an 8-0 record in season openers into Saturday's game and has been superb in games where his team had extra time to prepare. During his collegiate coaching career, his teams are 27-8 when having more than one week to prepare for a game.
