FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Frankfort Police Maj. Fred Deaton says 20-year-old Garry Cooper of Chicago and 21-year-old Jarrell A. Hightower of Frankfort are also charged with three counts of wanton endangerment. The charges stem from the Jan. 18 shooting of 22-year-old Kentucky State player Patrick Dawson as he sat in his girlfriend's apartment in Frankfort.

Cooper and Hightower were being held in the Franklin County Regional Jail. Jail records did not list attorneys on Friday.

The shooting prompted school officials to use metal detectors at the entrance to Kentucky State's Jan. 20 game against Tuskegee University.

Deaton says the investigation in ongoing.
