Bowling Green, Ky. — A total of 12 games against teams that competed in the 2012 postseason highlight the 29-game schedule the 2012-13 Western Kentucky University women’s basketball team will face.
This year’s schedule features 14 regular-season home games, and renewed rivalries with Southeastern Conference powerhouse Vanderbilt and regional foe Murray State. WKU will also face a 20-game Sun Belt Conference schedule — facing each of the other 10 league schools both home and away — and will visit Wright State for a four-team tournament prior to Christmas.

“I’m really excited about the competition we will face during our 2012-13 season,” said first-year head coach Michelle Clark-Heard. “We have an exciting home schedule that I think our fans will enjoy, as well as a number of regional rivalries that will make for an exciting atmosphere every night we step out on the court.”
After an exhibition game against Harding University on Nov. 2, a pair of in-state opponents kick off the regular season. WKU will open the year with a trip to Murray State on Nov. 9, then return home just over a week later to host Northern Kentucky at 5:30 p.m. (CST) on Nov. 17 in the home opener. The contest with the Norse — who are in their first year as a Division I institution — will also the the 30th annual BB&T Classic game.
That contest will also the start of a three-game homestand for the Lady Toppers. Two days after hosting NKU, the Lady Toppers play their earliest Sun Belt Conference game ever, hosting Florida International on Nov. 19. The homestand ends on Nov. 24 when Illinois State visits Diddle Arena.
Two more Sun Belt games follow with trips to Louisiana-Monroe (Nov. 29) and Troy (Dec. 1), before Vanderbilt visits Bowling Green for a 7 p.m. game on Dec. 4. WKU hits the road to face Morehead State and Kent State on Dec. 6 and Dec. 9, respectively, then play their final home nonconference game against Southeast Missouri State on Dec. 16.
The non-league and pre-Christmas schedule comes to a close with a trip to Dayton, Ohio, to take part in a tournament at Wright State. WKU will face the host Raiders in the opening-round game on Dec. 19, while St. Francis (Pa.) and Florida A&M square off in the other contest. The consolation and championship games will take place on Dec. 21.
After an eight-day break, the Lady Toppers begin a run of 17 straight conference games with a home date against North Texas on Dec. 29. The new year will open with a trip to UALR (Jan. 3) and Arkansas State (Jan. 6) before three straight home games against Florida Atlantic (Jan. 12), Louisiana-Lafayette (Jan. 16) and UALR (Jan. 19). Trips to South Alabama on Jan. 23 and Middle Tennessee on Jan. 27, and a home game with Troy on Jan. 30 close out the first month of the new year.
The final full month of the regular season will feature trips to UNT (Feb. 7), FAU (Feb. 13), FIU (Feb. 16) and ULL (Feb. 23), as well as home dates against Arkansas State (Feb. 9), ULM (Feb. 20) and South Alabama (Feb. 27). The regular season will come to a close with a 2 p.m. contest against Middle Tennessee on March 2.
The 2013 Sun Belt Conference Tournament will once again take place at Summit Arena in Hot Springs, Ark. This year’s event is scheduled to started on Friday, March 8, with the championship game slated for Monday, March 11.
