BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The WKU baseball team returns to Nick Denes Field on Wednesday to host Evansville at 4:00 PM (CT), kicking off a four-game homestand. The Hilltoppers will host the Purple Aces on Wednesday, and then will welcome in Sun Belt Conference foe Louisiana-Lafayette over the weekend.
Wednesday's game will be the 67th all-time meeting between WKU and Evansville, with the Hilltoppers leading the all-time series 35-29-2. WKU has won four of the last five meetings with the Purple Aces, with the only loss during that span coming in 2012.
The Hilltoppers are coming off a weekend in which they took two of three from FIU to improve to 5-1 on the year in Sun Belt Conference play. That start marks the fourth time in the last five seasons that WKU has started conference play 5-1 or better. Last week WKU also knocked off eighth-ranked Kentucky in Lexington, giving the Hilltoppers five wins over ranked teams in the last five years.
WKU is 8-2 in its last 10 games at Nick Denes Field, and had won six in a row at the friendly confines before dropping an extra-inning game to Lipscomb last week.
The Hilltoppers are scheduled to throw junior Jake Thompson on Wednesday. The start will be the first for the junior college transfer, who has worked 17.1 innings out of the WKU bullpen this season, which ranks second among relievers.
