BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Football its annual Media Day on Saturday morning at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium with players and coaches meeting with the media to detail the upcoming season. Media from across the region attended the session in the Harbaugh Club where over 20 players and assistant coaches talked with the assembled press.
“We’ve started our camp and are five days in,” said Petrino. “The first thing that stands out is the condition our players came back in. Our players are much stronger, some guys are bigger, some are smaller and I feel like our speed has really increased. They had a great summer. Our strength and conditioning coaches did an excellent job with the team and our players worked really hard, they’re in great condition. The first four practices – when you go newcomers and veterans, it’s very hard on them. It’s a lot of reps and it’s a fast pace but I thought they did a nice job fighting through when they had fatigue. I’m really happy about our staff. They are doing a great job taking things from the meetings and on to the practice field.”
Fall camp continues throughout the weekend with the next open practice coming on Monday. From Aug. 5 to Aug. 16, most fall camp practices are open to the public, and fans are encouraged to attend. All practices are scheduled to take place inside Houchens-Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium but the site and times are subject to change. The team scrimmage on Aug. 12 is also closed to the public.
Fans are asked to enter the stadium from the east side gates and remain on the east side of the stadium, opposite the Harbaugh Club. WKU respectfully requests that fans refrain from using their cell phones, including videotaping any portion of practice, taking pictures, texting, or posting to social media. Tuesday's practice is set for a 2 p.m. start for the newcomers and a 5 p.m. start for the veterans.
