BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - For the first time ever WKU and VMI will square off on the baseball diamond, as the Hilltoppers and the Keydets will meet at Nick Denes Field for a three-game series beginning on Friday at 3:00 PM (CT).
The entire series will be in conjunction with Military Appreciation Weekend, as all military personnel will receive free admission when they show a valid military ID and sign in at the gates for all three games over the weekend. Friends and family may purchase additional tickets for $3. The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a WKU baseball car decal.
The three games will also kick off WKU’s 2013 online video streaming services at WKUSports.com. In all, 16 games in 2013 will be available online, along with all games having full audio streaming capabilities. Fans can visit WKUSports.com to subscribe for the service.
WKU left-handed starter Tanner Perkins will be making his first Friday start of the season, as Perkins had previously started a pair of Sunday games after coming back from an arm injury in 2012. Perkins will be followed in the rotation by Andrew Edwards on Saturday, and Tim Bado on Sunday.

THE FIRST PITCH
·Friday’s meeting between WKU and VMI will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
·This will mark the first time since the 2010 season that WKU has hosted a first-time opponent. WKU hosted Illinois-Chicago in 2010 in the first-ever meeting between the two.
·WKU head coach Matt Myers took on VMI when he was the head coach at UNC-Asheville, taking two of three from the Keydets in 2004.
·In all, WKU head coach Matt Myers has faced VMI 11 times during his career, including eight times as an assistant at Auburn. Myers is 7-4 all-time against the Keydets as a head coach or assistant.
·Former WKU assistant coach Jonathan Hadra is currently in his fourth season as an assistant with VMI. Harda spent four seasons at WKU (2005-08) under VMI graduate and former Hilltopper head coach Chris Finwood. Hadra was part of the 2008 WKU Sun Belt Conference championship team under Finwood.
·WKU pitchers struck out 11 batters on Wednesday against Austin Peay, marking the eighth time this season the Hilltopper staff has struck out 11 or more in a game.
The NCAA released its first statistical rankings of the 2013 season on Tuesday. WKU leads the nation in strikeouts per nine innings.
