BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU football and head coach Bobby Petrino will conduct the annual Spring Game at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium on Saturday at 2:00 PM (CT). The rosters for the game will be split into red and white teams with several players expected to see action on both squads. The complete rosters were released on Friday at www.wkusports.com.
“We are excited about the game Saturday,” said Petrino. “What we ended up doing is splitting the teams up. The Red Team will be our one offense and our one defense together against the two’s and the three’s.”
Over the last five weeks, WKU has held 14 spring practices leading into the first spring game under Petrino.
“It will be game-type with the coaches off the field for the first time, which is what I really want to see,” said Petrino. “All of the scrimmages that we have had we had the coaches out there coaching on every play and working hard on every play. Now it is time to get everyone off the field – except for me, as I will be out there with the quarterbacks – and see how they play and how they line up, how they communicate without coaches telling them where to go and what to do and make it as game-like as we can. The first half it will be regular clock, just like a game. The second half we will see how many plays we have. I don’t want to do too many plays, so if we have enough then we will run the clock in the second half. It won’t be live kicking game, but we will punt the ball and kick field goals and do PAT’s.”
The Spring Game is open and free to the public and will wrap up five weeks of spring practice for WKU football. The first 1,000 fans to the Spring Game will receive a free WKU football shirt, along with an opportunity to win tickets to see Beyoncé in concert, along with a special fan package to the WKU-Kentucky game in Nashville, Tenn., on August 31. Fans can also enjoy tailgating prior to the game, along with a 1:00 PM pep rally on South Lawn.
