MOREHEAD, Ky. - WKU used an impressive defensive effort and a strong showing from sophomore Chastity Gooch to post a 62-38 win over Morehead State at the Ellis T. Johnson Arena on Thursday night.

WKU improved to 4-0 on the road in 2012-13 after recording a combined five road wins over the last two seasons. WKU has recorded multiple non-conference wins on the road for the first time since 2009-10 when they recorded three.

Sophomore Chastity Gooch had her seventh double-double of the season and also recorded six steals or more for the third time this season to lead the Lady Topper attack. She finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals.

WKU (6-2, 3-0) now leads the all-time series with Morehead State 21-10 and have won 15 straight games in the series.

WKU held Morehead State to just 24.0 percent shooting from the field and WKU forced 26 turnovers as the Lady Toppers played their second game in three days.

The Lady Toppers jumped out to a 14-0 lead over the first six and a half minutes of the game, holding Morehead State without a field goal until the 13:08 mark of the first half. The WKU defense held the Eagles to 0-of-7 shooting from the field and forced seven turnovers in the opening 6:52 of the contest before Morehead State's Almesha Jones ended the scoring drought to open the game. The Lady Toppers would add another 8-0 run later in the half.

The Lady Toppers held Morehead State to just eight points in the first half as the Lady Toppers forced 15 turnovers and held MSU to just 3-of-23 from the field. WKU led 35-8 at halftime. It was just one point off the best defensive effort for a half in school history. WKU held Saint Louis to just seven points on Jan. 6, 1991.

After Morehead State equaled their first half output of eight points in the first 2:11 of the second half, scoring eight of the first 11 points of the second half, the Lady Toppers scored the next nine points of the game to extend their 22-point lead to 31 points at 47-16 with just over 14 minutes remaining in the game. Gooch scored six of the nine points during the run.
