BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The WKU Hilltoppers defeated Campbellsville (Ky.) in an exhibition game Saturday afternoon, 87-73, behind four players in double figures including 15 points from freshman Brandon Price. The game was the Hilltoppers' lone preseason tune-up ahead of the start of the 2013-14 season on November 12.
WKU is now 50-4 all-time in exhibition games and has won 19-straight, dating back to a 2002-03 loss to the Harlem Globetrotters.
Price hit 6-of-9 shots from the floor in 21 minutes en route to 15 points, and he also hit two shots from behind the three-point arc. T.J. Price also added 15, and Caden Dickerson and Aaron Adeoye contributed 14 points apiece. Adeoye also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. The Tigers were paced by Eric Gaines' 18 points.
WKU used a pair of 17-2 scoring runs to help distance themselves from the Tigers, as an early 17-2 burst gave WKU a 20-7 lead in the first half, and another 17-2 dash put the Hilltoppers up by 13 points at 64-51 midway through the second half.
WKU shot 43.5 percent from the floor in the game and buried eight three-pointers. Campbellsville shot 50.0 percent from the field, three-point line and free throw line. WKU outrebounding the Tigers, 43-38, and forced 18 turnovers while turning it over themselves just 10 times.
WKU begins its 95th season of basketball at Wichita State next Monday night going into Tuesday morning, November 12, at midnight (CT) as part of the 2013 ESPN Tip-Off Marathon. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 and broadcast on the radio on the Hilltopper IMG Sports Network. After the game against the nationally-ranked Shockers, WKU returns to E.A. Diddle Arena for three-straight games starting Saturday, November 16 against East Tennessee State.
