BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — After a slow start, the WKU men’s basketball team had a fast finish Saturday night, as the Hilltoppers took a 68-53 win over Eastern Illinois in E.A. Diddle Arena. WKU improves to 4-2 for the season and 4-0 in home games, while the Panthers move to 3-4.
George Fant posted 14 of his 20 points in the second half to lead WKU, while T.J. Price collected all 13 of his points in the later portion after early foul trouble. Brandon Harris came off the bench to grab a game-high eight rebounds with Aleksej Rostov close behind with six.
WKU found itself in a nine-point deficit after back-to-back three pointers by EIU set the score at 16-7 with 11:55 remaining in the first. An 11-2 run complete with a Payton Hulsey three-point basket and Nigel Snipes dunk gave WKU its first lead at 20-18 before carrying the momentum to a 28-24 halftime advantage.
Fant opened the second half with a pair of dunks to extend WKU’s lead to 34-27. The Panthers closed the gap to four points with 7:32 remaining after hot shooting behind the arc, but with WKU hitting 66.7 percent from the floor, the Hilltoppers were able to pull ahead as many as 16 points to seal the victory.
The Hilltoppers head on the road for three-straight games, starting Monday night at Bowling Green State. Tip-off for Monday's game is set for 6:00 PM (CT), and the game will be televised in the Bowling Green area on WKU PBS. It will also be broadcast on the radio on the Hilltopper IMG Sports Network, airing locally in Bowling Green on WKLX-FM Sam 100.7. Following the game at Bowling Green State, WKU plays at Southern Illinois on Saturday, December 7 and at Louisville on Saturday, December 14, before returning home to face Southern Miss on Wednesday, December 18.
