BOWLING GREEN, Ky.—After posting a 2-0 record last weekend, the Western Kentucky University volleyball ranked No. 19 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Poll.
WKU received 450 votes in this week’s poll after notching 367 last week. The Lady Toppers are now in their sixth-consecutive week in the top 25.
WKU is on a 16-game winning streak, which ties Morehead State for the longest active win streak in Division I volleyball. Last weekend, WKU defeated Arkansas State and UALR in three-set sweeps at E.A. Diddle Arena to improve its record to 24-3 overall and 10-0 in the Sun Belt Conference. The team has not lost a set in the conference schedule, as WKU has now defeated its last 11 opponents by a score of 3-0. The 10-straight sweeps in conference play is the longest consecutive match sweeps in program history while the 34-straight sets won by the Lady Toppers is the longest active streak in the nation.
The Lady Toppers have held this season’s opponents to a .146 hitting percentage, including .093 mark in conference play. Last weekend, WKU held UALR to a season low for a SBC opponent with a .021 clip while keeping the nation’s kill leader Edina Begic to just two kills and a -.318 hitting percentage.
WKU will hit the road for another four-game stretch, as the team starts the road trip in Florida with FIU on Friday, October 26 at 5:30 p.m. CT before taking on Florida Atlantic at noon CT on Saturday, October 27. After going to the state of Alabama the following weekend, WKU will host MTSU in the final game of the season on Friday, November 9 at 7 p.m.
