Western Kentucky University continues to pile up commitments in its 2011 men's basketball recruiting class.
On Monday, the Hilltoppers landed a pledge from George Rogers Clark forward Vinny Zollo - making a total of six commitments for WKU in the class and the fifth player to cast his lot with the Hilltoppers in the last five days.
Zollo committed to WKU after visiting for the school's Hilltopper Hysteria festivities on Friday.
Evan Daniels of Scout.com originally reported the commitment, which was later confirmed to WBKO by George Rogers Clark boys basketball coach Scott Humphrey.
The 6-foot-9 Zollo's another relatively high-profile piece to the recruiting puzzle for the Hilltoppers as well. He reportedly chose the Hilltoppers over DePaul and had once been committed to Kentucky (he backed out of that commitment when Billy Gillispie was removed as head coach).
Rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com, Zollo also reportedly had scholarship offers from Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Pacific, St. Joseph's, Tulane and Wright State.
His commitment comes as part of a whirlwind stretch for WKU. The Hilltoppers scored a commitment from 7-0 center Deng Leek of Greensboro (N.C.) Veritas on Oct. 8th and from 6-6 Warren Central forward George Fant last Monday. On Friday, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco point guard Cezar Guerrero committed and was shortly followed by Marietta (Ga.) Wheeler small forward Nigel Snipes - who attended Hilltopper Hysteria with Zollo. Guerrero's rated as a four-star prospect by Rivals.com while the other three are rated as three-star prospects by the service.
Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick guard Derrick Gordon - himself a three-star prospect per Rivals.com - committed to the Hilltoppers in the summer of 2009.
