BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its 1992-93 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 team at halftime of Saturday's game against UALR, which starts at 5:00 PM at E.A. Diddle Arena.
The 1992-93 squad finished the season with a 26-6 record and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament after winning the Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship. The Hilltoppers were coached by Ralph Willard and led in scoring by senior guards Darnell Mee at 18.9 points per game and Mark Bell at 16.8 points per contest.
After winning the conference tournament title in Biloxi, Miss., WKU entered the Associated Press Top 25 poll the following week ranked 20th in the nation. WKU defeated Memphis State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Orlando, Fla., 55-52, and then knocked off 6th-ranked Seton Hall two days later, 72-68 to advance to the Sweet 16 in Charlotte, N.C. WKU then saw its season end with a 81-78 overtime defeat to 11th-ranked Florida State.
Willard and assistant coach Bobby Jones are scheduled to be at the reunion, as are members of the team.
In addition, Saturday is the Critter Classic at E.A. Diddle Arena, and fans who bring items on the Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society wish list to donate to help the animal shelter will receive a free ticket to the game. Also, WKU's throwback uniforms from Thursday night will be raffled off at halftime.
Youth involved in Big Red's Rascals and the Upward program will receive a free ticket to Saturday's game, and friends and family can purchase additional tickets for $7.00 each. As a part of Faith and Family Day, all church organization members can purchase reduced price tickets for $7.00.
