Bowling Green, Ky. - For the third time this season - and the second time in the past three weeks - Western Kentucky University sophomore guard Alexis Govan has been named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.

Govan, a native of San Antonio, Texas, is the first Lady Topper to earn league Player-of-the-Week honors three times in a season since Crystal Kelly took the honor four times during the 2007-08 campaign. She joins Middle Tennessee's Ebony Rowe as three-time winners of the award this season. FIU's Jerica Coly has taken the honor twice, while fellow Lady Topper sophomore Chastity Gooch is the fourth player in the league to be named Player of the Week this year.

Govan averaged a double-double (20.5 points and 10.0 rebounds), helping the Lady Toppers to home wins over Louisiana-Lafayette and UALR last week. In the win over the Ragin' Cajuns, Govan posted 25 points and a career-high 14 boards for her second consecutive double-double. She finished 12-for-20 from the field (60 percent) against ULL, adding a block and two steals to her scoring and rebounding totals. She followed that effort with 16 points and six rebounds against UALR. In 31 minutes against the Trojans, Govan added three assists and three steals to her stat line. For the week, Govan shot 52.9 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from three.

Govan currently ranks third in the Sun Belt and 23rd nationally in scoring at 19.9 points per game. She has scored in double figures in every game this season, and in 21 straight games dating back to last season. She is one of only seven players in the nation with a current streak of 21 or more straight games in double digits.

WKU has won three straight games and 10 of the last 11 contests to sit at 15-3 overall and 8-1 in Sun Belt Conference play entering action this week. The Lady Toppers will be on the road for two key East Division contests this week, taking on South Alabama on Wednesday night in Mobile before visiting Middle Tennessee on Sunday afternoon in a battle of division co-leaders.
