WKU's Andrews Earns Second Straight Sun Belt OffensivePlayer-of-the Week Honor

Bowling Green, Ky. — For the second time in as many week, Western Kentucky University junior running back Antonio Andrews has been named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Andrews rushed for a career-high 136 yards and a touchdown in WKU’s impressive 42-17 win over defending Conference USA champion Southern Miss on Saturday. The Fort Campbell, Ky., native also hauled in four catches for a career-best 74 receiving yards and a TD in the victory. In all, he finished with 211 all-purpose yards, marking the third time in four weeks he has gone for over 200 yards. He currently ranks second nationally, averaging 201 all-purpose yards per game.

Andrews averaged 9.1 yards per carry against the Golden Eagles en route to his second straight 100-plus yard rushing performance. He ran for 125 yards a week earlier in WKU’s overtime victory at Kentucky. Andrews enters play this week ranked third in the Sun Belt in rushing at 81.8 yards per game.

The Sun Belt Offensive Player-of-the-Week award was not the only honor bestowed on Andrews after his performance against Southern Miss. College Sports Madness also named him their league Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight time. Andrews was also named the National All-Purpose Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards

WKU has become just the seventh school in Sun Belt Conference history to start a season 3-1, and joins last year’s Florida International squad as the only two teams in the history of the league to win three of its four nonconference games.

The Hilltoppers will now turn their attention to Sun Belt Conference play, opening league action this Saturday (Sept. 29) at defending champion Arkansas State. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. (CDT) from Liberty Bank Stadium in Jonesboro, and the game will be available exclusively on ESPN3.
