BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU junior running back Antonio Andrews has been named one of seven National Punt Returner Performers of the Week, as announced by the College Football Performance Awards on Monday.

Andrews led WKU to its opening score of the 2012 season on a 70-yard punt return in the first quarter on Saturday against Austin Peay. The 70-yard punt return for a score was the longest at WKU since Antonio Veals had an 86-yard touchdown return on November 30, 2002 in the first round of the I-AA playoffs against Murray State. Andrews' score propelled WKU to a 49-10 win over Austin Peay Saturday night in Bowling Green.

Andrews finished the game with 228 all-purpose yards, including 130 yards in punt and kick returns. The Fort Campbell, Ky., product also had six carries for 39 yards, and four catches for 59 yards, including a 38-yard grab in the first half.

The former Mr. Kentucky high school football award winner finished fourth among Hilltoppers with 590 all-purpose yards in 2011, averaging just under 74 yards per game. Andrews was one of five backs on the WKU roster to receive carries against Austin Peay on Saturday, as the Hilltoppers churned out 244 yards on the ground. His four receptions in the game ranked only behind tight end Jack Doyle's four grabs, as WKU put up 352 yards through the air.

Andrews joined the ranks of Marcus Murphy (Missouri), Odell Beckham (LSU), Tramaine Thompson (Kansas State), Rashad Greene (Florida State), Gio Bernard (UNC) and Venric Mark (Northwestern) on the CFPA list.
