Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University senior Jack Doyle was among 26 tight ends named to the midseason watch list for the John Mackey Award on Monday.
Given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2012 John Mackey winner will be presented live on December 6, 2012 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show airing at 5:30 p.m. (CT) on ESPNU. Other key dates include the announcement of the 2012 Mackey semi-finalists on November 12, 2012 and the announcement of the 2012 Mackey finalists on November 19, 2012. Doyle - the only Sun Belt Conference player on the list - leads the Hilltoppers with 27 receptions for 242 yards though six games this season. Averaging 9.0 yards per catch and 40.3 yards per game, the Indianapolis, Ind., native has posted at least three catches in all six games this season. He recorded a season-high seven catches against #1 Alabama, and hauled in his first touchdown catch of the season in last Thursday's 31-26 victory at Troy.
A preseason all-Sun Belt Conference selection, Doyle is on the Mackey Award watch list for the second straight season.
