WKU’s Jack Doyle One Of Eight Semifinalists For 2012 John Mackey Award

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University senior Jack Doyle has made the cut as one of eight semifinalists for the 2012 John Mackey Award. The list was narrowed down from 26 semifinalists, which were announced last month. The Nassau County Sports Commission will announce the finalists for this year's award next Monday (Nov. 19).

Doyle, a senior from Indianapolis, Ind., is joined by fellow semifinalists Tyler Eifert (Jr, Notre Dame), Zach Ertz (Jr, Stanford), Gavin Escobar (Jr, San Diego State), Joseph Fauria (Sr, UCLA), Ryan Otten (Sr, San Jose State), Austin Seferian-Jenkins (So, Washington) and Zach Sudfeld (Sr, Nevada).

Given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. The 2012 John Mackey winner will be presented live on December 6, 2012 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show airing at 5:30 p.m. (CT) on ESPNU.

Doyle continues to lead the Hilltoppers in receiving this season, hauling in a team-best 41 catches for 438 yards and three touchdowns. He has finished with at least one catch in 13 straight games dating back to last season, and is averaging 10.7 yards per catch and 43.8 yards per game through 10 games in 2012. Doyle hauled in a season-high seven catches against Alabama earlier in the season, and finished with six catches for a season-best 82 yards and two touchdowns against Louisiana-Monroe. With 140 receptions over his four years, Doyle stands alone in second on WKU's list for career catches.
