Political Director

Michael Gossum is from the very western tip of the state, Fulton, KY, about 50 miles southwest of Paducah.

Michael is a graduate of the University of Missouri. He double majored in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science, with a minor in German. In 2010, he put those German language skills to use studying abroad at Philips University in Marburg, Germany. His experiences there included visiting Strasbourg, France the capital city for the European Parliament.

Michael's journalism career began while at Mizzou, working as an anchor, reporter, and videographer at the NBC affiliate, KOMU, in Columbia, MO covering stories such as the tornado that ripped through Lambert International Airport in St. Louis in 2011.

He also served as a public address announcer for the University's baseball team and nationally ranked softball team.

Michael worked at the Missouri state capitol in Jefferson City as a political reporter for Missouri Digital News, the National Public Radio affiliate KBIA and CBS Radio KMOX, covering stories such as the e-coli outbreak at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Also at Missouri, Michael was very active in the freshman orientation program, serving as a leader and organizer. He also helped organize one of the state's largest blood drives, and the largest student run homecoming in the world, at the birthplace of homecoming, Mizzou!

Michael is excited to be back in his home state, joining WBKO in September of 2011. He serves as our reporter for the 10 o'clock news, but you might see him out shooting a football or basketball game as well.

Growing up as an avid UK fan and going to college at Mizzou, he's excited to see his two favorite collegiate programs going head to head on a regular basis in the future. He's also a big fan of the outdoors and enjoys hunting, fishing, and playing golf.

If you have any news tips or story ideas, feel free to send him an e-mail.
