Darla was born and raised in nearby Franklin, KY. She is a 1999 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast News and Government.
Darla got her start in broadcasting as a disc jockey at WFKN Radio in Franklin while still in high school. In college, she continued working in radio and later began working as a weekend reporter at WKAG TV in Hopkinsville.
Darla began her work at WBKO in 1999 as a reporter and producer and was later promoted to weekend anchor. She left the station in 2000 to become a morning disc jockey for WCVK Christian Family Radio and Darla got married in July of that year.
A year later, Darla and her husband, Cheyenne, moved to Cookeville, TN where she took a break from broadcasting and coached gymnastics and taught preschool!
Her love for her family and news brought the couple back to Bowling Green in 2002 where she joined the NewsCenter13 team again. This time as the 6 and 10 Producer, then the Weekend Report Anchor, and now Darla has found her place as the Midday News Anchor.
Darla describes her childhood as “Leave It to Beaver”. She grew up in a wonderful, Christian home with parents who not only loved her and her siblings but were madly in love with each other. But Darla’s “Leave It to Beaver” lifestyle came to an end on November 4th, 2005.
Darla’s parents were almost home from vacation when they were hit by a drunk driver in nearby Christian County. Darla’s mom died at the scene. Her father died 17 days later in the Vanderbilt Trauma Unit. Darla says losing both parents and burying them both within the same month was excruciating… but she finds comfort in knowing they are in a much better place and wouldn’t come back to this earth, even if given the choice. She also knows she will see them again.
Although Darla has experienced great sorrow in her life, she is now full of joy! Darla is the proud mother of two precious babies, thanks to the miracle of adoption. Liam Gabriel was born on November 24th, 2006 and was placed in the arms of the Oglesby family forever 4 weeks later. Nadia Cathryn Isabella was born December 3rd, 2007, and Darla and her husband were privileged to be at the hospital when she arrived! God’s timing is perfect, and the story of Liam and Nadia’s arrival is nothing short of a miracle. (Maybe one day Darla will write a book about it!)
Liam and Nadia are 12 months and 9 days apart, so needless to say, Darla’s life is quite chaotic and full of adventure! She says coming to work for 3 ½ hours a day each weekday morning is actually her “break”! Darla is thankful she’s been given the opportunity to continue to perform the job she loves and raise two beautiful children at the same time. Darla is also grateful for Liam and Nadia’s birth mothers. Because of their amazing strength, courage, and sacrifice, Darla’s dream of becoming a mom came true. Darla says she puts her faith in Jesus Christ and is humbled and honored to live the life he has given her.
