Title: AM Kentucky & Mid-Day Anchor
Email Address: laura.rogers@wbko.com

Laura Rogers was born and raised on a farm along 31-E in the “hart” of south-central Kentucky in the town of Canmer. Her love of reading and writing grew into aspirations of a career in journalism.

Laura attended Western Kentucky University’s accredited School of Journalism & Broadcasting where she poured her heart and soul into the student-produced NewsChannel 12.

Her reporting at NC12 lead to four Associated Press awards and a Hearst award. As a student at WKU, she completed a summer internship with WZTV-Fox 17 News in Nashville and a media convergence workshop at the University of South Carolina.

Laura is an avid country music fan, which inspired her first job in broadcasting at "Today's Best Country" 95.1 WGGC-FM. She began as board-op and producer of the Wes Strader and Kenny "Sky" Walker Cat's Talk program, and was eventually promoted to midday disc jockey and co-host of the morning show, where she interviewed numerous country music artists including the legendary Charlie Daniels.

This helped prepare Laura for two of her favorite assignments at WBKO - reporting live from CMA Music Fest in June and from the red carpet at the 41st Annual CMA Awards! Interviewing everyone from the legends to up-and-comers, including artists Kenny Chesney, LeAnn Rimes and Dierks Bentley, was a dream come true for this diehard fan. In her spare time, Laura enjoys collecting country music memorabilia and researching the history of the genre, as well as catching an historic Grand Ole Opry show from time to time.

Laura had the opportunity to visit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in January of 2008, and is involved in the Dream Home campaign to raise money for this amazing place that finds cures and saves children. She also serves on the Board of the Barren River Area Child Advocacy Center, which serves child victims of sexual abuse. For more, visit www.bracac.org

Laura loves animals, and received an "honorable mention" from the Kentucky Associated Press for her feature story on Mitzi Ann, a local dog and pet therapist (owned by Dr. Neresa Minatrea) who works with mentally challenged adults.

In her spare time, Laura enjoys books, live music and spending time with family and friends. Her parents are retired and live in Hart County and her brother works for the State Department of Environmental Protection. She is also related to the Metcalfe County-bred, Grammy award-winning Kentucky Headhunters, and loves catching them in concert whenever she can.
