Most of us know it's illegal to discriminate against someone because of race or gender, but did you know there's no law that protects people who are overweight?

According to a new study, weight discrimination happens at the workplace and on the streets just as often as race discrimination, and in some cases even more then age and gender discrimination.

The study also states that overweight women are twice as likely to be discriminated for their weight then men.

How do you feel about this study?

Do you think there is a major problem with weight discrimination in your area?

I'd like to hear what you have to say!

Overweight people loose at any level of accomplishment. It cost the person as to selfconfidance. It cost the tax payers, as obese get sick quicker. Work efficiency slows, and finally it cost the family much more at the grocery store < so I can't see any advantage for eating too much.

I know its hard to come by jobs in Muhlenberg County, it's even harder when you know that a company needs more help and you are capable of the job but that company won't hire you cause you are a big girl. I'm a plus size woman, but I'm not dumb. I know I am capable of giving out samples at races, and I know I am a people person but I am being judged solely on my size!

There is a law that protects people to discriminate against disabilities. This could be considered a "disability" especially if they have a medical condition which prohibits them to lose weight. Some cannot help it. Discrimination is a wrongful act and should not be practiced. Depending upon the circumstances of the incident, an employee could seek legal counsel.
