October 1: United States Senator, Mitch McConnell. Senator McConnell, currently serving as the United States Senate Minority Leader will present a current events update and speak about his early days in politics.

October 8: Mark Murphy. Mr. Murphy is an award-winning, editorial cartoonist for the Louisville, Kentucky Courier-Journal newspaper.

October 15: David Lanphear. Attorney and Candidate for Family Court Judge will speak about his experience practicing in family matters.

October 22: Alison Lundergan Grimes. Kentucky Secretary of State and Democratic Candidate for United States Senator will speak about current events and needs of Kentuckians.

October 29: Rebecca Adams Simpson. Attorney and Candidate for Family Court Judge will speak about her experience practicing in family matters.



Members of the news media are cordially invited to attend these meetings, enjoy lunch and hear and interview the speaker as time allows.

Todd County Community Alliance “Bale Trail”

All around Todd County
The Todd County Community Alliance is sponsoring the first annual “Bale Trail” across Todd County starting September 15th. The Alliance encourages you to “Explore Todd County” and the new Bale Trail is a great way to start your journey.

So what is the "Bale Trail"? Participants around Todd County will use hay and hay bales to create elaborate displays near the roadway. Just a few of the participants already signed up include Crossroads Animal Clinic near Guthrie, Kentucky with their display titled “Straw Creatures Great and Small.” And, Martin Industries in Elkton will create a display titled “Farmer in the Bale.” People will be able to drive around the county, view the displays and explore the beautiful Todd County countryside.

All displays must be completed by September 15th when a map of all the hay bale display locations will be posted at the ExploreToddCounty.com website. Participants are encouraged to keep the displays up until October 31st.

Take a look at how the Shakers embraced technology in their everyday lives. A hands-on program that introduces students to innovation in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Learn how simple, practical, “green” living is not a new idea.

The South Union Shaker Village offers school tours year ‘round, but presents the following focused tours: “To Grandmother’s House We Go: Thanksgiving in 1914” from November 3rd-21st.

BUS FUND
Thanks to the generosity of Edith Bingham, a Bus Fund has been established at South Union, providing $1 per mile reimbursement for school buses bringing students to our programs up to 150 miles. The School Tour Reservation and Bus Fund form is available online—fill out it out and turn in the day of your tour. After review, payment will be mailed within two weeks.
