December 4th - David Hosay, From Muppet Magic to WBKO
David Hosay grew up fascinated with the genius of Jim Henson and his creations, The Muppets. It was this interest in puppets and television that led him to a degree in TV Production at WKU and working as Production Manager at WBKO. David did his internship with the Jim Henson Company at their historic offices in Hollywood, CA. He took the lessons of what made Jim Henson successful and applied them to his work at WBKO. He and his collaborators were nominated for a regional Emmy in 2012 for a commercial campaign featuring his puppet character, Sid the Squirrel. He loves Bowling Green, his friends and family. David hopes for all people to go after their dreams. His biggest supporters are his wife, two boys and little girl.
December 11th – Skip Cleavinger, Holiday Music Mix (Plus our special guests from the Giving Hope Adopt-a-Class). Note that this meeting will take place at the Carroll Knicely Center on WKU’s South Campus (Nashville Road & Campbell Lane).
Skip Cleavinger began playing the Scottish and Irish music about 37 years ago. He played the Scottish highland bagpipes in his high school band, and he began competing on the highland pipes while still in high school. Skip played in piping competitions around the eastern U.S. and Canada for nearly 25 years. During his tenure with the City of Washington Pipe Band in Washington D.C., the band won the North American Championships and went on to win the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
Skip has performed with many symphony orchestras across the U.S. and Canada with Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith. He is a regular performer in "Siamsa Na Gael," a benefit for St. Patrick's Cathedral in Chicago held at Chicago's Symphony Center each St. Patrick’s Day.
Some very memorable performances for Skip include performing with Josh Groban for the Christmas Tree Lighting at Rockefeller Plaza in New York City and ABC’s Good Morning America, and performing with the Notre Dame Folk Choir in Dublin, Ireland for the Navy-Notre Dame football game in August 2012. Skip has served on the Board of Directors for the Northeast Tionol, the largest gathering of Irish pipers in the U.S.
When not off playing music somewhere, Skip is the Director of English Learner Programs for the Warren County Schools. His programs serve over 1300 students from 34 countries who are not proficient in English.
December 18th – SANTA! Rotarians welcome members of their families to this traditional holiday meeting. Note that this meeting will take place at the Carroll Knicely Center on WKU’s South Campus (Nashville Road & Campbell Lane).
