South central kentucky was awakened by an early morning earthquake.

We here at the station recieved several phone calls from surrounding counties.

Preliminary earthquake information:
Occured at 4:36 am
Magnitude: 5.2
Depth: 6.2 miles
Epicenter: 5 miles
North-northeast of Bellmont, Illinois

The epicenter of the earthquake which occured at 4:36 this morning was located just 7miles east of West Salem, Illinois and 41miles northwest of Evansville.

The quake itself regisitered a magnitude of 5.2 and the depth quake registered at 6.2 miles.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage in Kentucky.

Kentucky state police dispatcher Natalie Alsip at the post in Hendersonville said telephone calls poured in to the post following the quake early Friday.

One man reported cracked plaster at his home.

When natural disasters strike... it's important to have a plan in place.

Ready.Gov emergency plans:
- have a plan
- have pre-paid phone cards, change on hand
- emergency plans at business/school
- listen to tv, radio stations

Ready.Gov says having a plan is important because your family may not be together.

The website says calls out of town are easier to make so it's important to have an out-of town contact to communicate between members.

Make sure your family has pre-paid phone cards or change on hand.

Inquire about emergency plans at your business or school.

And, of course, listen to your radio and t-v broadcast for the latest information.

It was an eerie feeling. I was getting ready for work, and was about to go downstairs with my husband, and everything was shaking. Since we live in a townhouse, I thought it was the neighbors, and then the house continued to shake, the windows were rattling, then it dawned on me, earthquake, or I was going crazy. I went downstairs, and my husband said everything rattled, I am thankful that it was not worse, then what it could have been.

I couldn't figure out what was going on. It woke me up also about 4:30 with the bed shaking and the house rattling. I thought I was crazy until I got back up this morning and saw the news that there had actually been an earthquake. I guess we can say that we have seen it all here in South Central Kentucky now!! Fire, Flood, Tornados, and Earthquakes!! I guess they'll blame it on global warming.

Our bird fell off her pearch and our doggie door was swinging. We could not figure what was going on! But we felt more shaking at about 10:30 this morning.

I was already awake this morning at the time and was sitting on my couch and felt the house shaking pretty intensely (the couch was also moving) and things on my walls were rattling - I almost thought if it didn't stop soon something would surely fall and break but then it was over. I listened to the silence and hoped to hear a train but there was none. It was a very strange feeling. I also had thought "WOW isn't this something and went to both the front and back doors to look out at neighbors homes to see if anyone was turning on their lights. It was over so quickly I can't believe noone else in the house felt it.

felt quake around 4:30 this morning lasted around 5 to 10 seconds or so

Things rattling in the house woke me up and I first thought it was the washer on spin making the noise until I looked at the clock and it was 3:35 AM and I knew no one was doing laundry. The bed was shaking, glassware was rattling and by the time I was awake enough to realize what was happening and started to get up it was over.
