Three Christian County storm spotters receive local and statewide recognition for helping establish advanced warnings, during the August 4 tornado that tore through Hopkinsville.

Husband and wife Terry and Jessica Sargent, and their 16-year-old daughter and junior spotter Savannah, received a brand new award from emergency management for their selfless and courageous efforts.

The spotting team risked life and limb to warn others in the area about the storm that touched down over the summer.

"We're out there to do the safety, not only for ourselves, our fellow spotters, but also for our community," says Jessica Sargent.

"Pretty much giving back to them what they gave to us growing up."

The Christian County Storm Spotters' Network serves as an example for other spotting networks, which will become established statewide with the aid of the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management.
