LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Schoettmer said Monday, another prolonged heat wave will be settling into the region the rest of the week. He said the result will be the kind of heat that "wears on people."

Forecasters say temperatures will approach 100 degrees in west Tennessee later in the week. Highs in the 90's will be common elsewhere across Kentucky and Tennessee. Combined with high humidity, heat index readings surging past 100 will be widespread.

The two states are feeling the effects of a heat wave that has caused blistering conditions across the Plains into the upper Midwest.
