BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Fire safety is important year-round but with the holidays coming up there might be some safety precautions to be a little more aware of when cooking.

“So you want to make sure that you have working smoke alarms in your home. If they are not working or you are not sure make sure you check and repair and replace,” said Marlee Boeing, Spokesperson for BGFD.

Boeing tells 13 News that Thanksgiving day is the number one day for cooking house fires.

“You need to be sure that you keep an eye on what you are cooking. If you cook on the stovetop and you have to leave the kitchen make sure to turn everything off,” said Boeing.

Another safety reminder is to keep those pot handles turned in and try to keep small children out of the kitchen and away from burners.
