BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - In their first game of conference play the WKU Hilltoppers were able to come away with a 67-63 win over the Charlotte 49ers.

The Tops looked a little rusty in the first half of this one as this was their first game since December 22nd. WKU committed several turnovers and fell behind by 11 points in the first half.

The second half was a different story as Coach Stansbury and team outscored Charlotte 39-27 and shot 60% from the field.

Taveion Hollingsworth led the team with 14 points. Charles Bassey played in his first game since suffering a back injury against Alabama back on December 19. He was hobbled, but still effective with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The key to this win was the play of the WKU bench. Dayvion McKnight scored 12 points, grabbled 4 rebounds, and dished out 6 assist as the Hilltopper bench outscored Charlotte’s bench 28-5.

The Tops won’t celebrate this win much as they are back on the court tomorrow taking on the 49ers. Coach Stansbury has admitted he doesn’t know how his team will respond to playing the same team in back to back games.

WKU extends their current win streak to 6 games. They will look to make it 7 wins in a row against the 49ers. Tipoff is scheduled for 3pm.
