Williams signs with Las Vegas Raiders
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -The last time Carson Williams played football was in the eighth grade, now he’s signing a free-agent deal with the Las Vegas Raiders.
The NFL organization announced the signing of the Western Kentucky Basketball forward Monday afternoon.
Williams played two seasons with WKU (2019-2021) after transferring to The Hill in the fall of 2018. He made the decision to begin training to attempt a professional football career back in March.
Williams took part in WKU Football’s Pro Day on April 1 and his performance caught the attention of scouts.
Measuring in at 6-foot-4 and 254 pounds, Williams ran a 4.73-second 40-yard dash with a bad hamstring and recorded a 38-inch vertical jump.
The Raiders signed Williams as a tight end.
During his time at Northern Kentucky and WKU, the former 2016 Kentucky Mr. Basketball scored 1,388 points. He averaged 0.9 points and six rebounds per game in his two seasons as a Hilltopper.
Williams isn’t the only WKU Basketball player to end up playing in the NFL. George Fant was a four-year standout for the Hilltoppers on the basketball court. He played one season with WKU Football as a tight end and later signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free-agent offensive lineman in 2016. Fant signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the New York Jets in 2020.
